I have extolled the virutes of the mighty Rocket From the Crypt before. While they may be the single greatest punk rock band to have ever been formed, they sadly disbanded in 2005—but never fear! Frontman John Reis was always a prolific side projectist even when RFTC were still together, and in 2008, he released an album with a new band that can at least attempt to fill the whole in my heart left by RFTC’s untimely demise.
They’re called the Night Marchers, and happily, they tend more towards Reis’s punk and rockabilly tendencies (Rocket From the Crypt, Sultans) than his technical post-punk tendencies (Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes). It’s good stuff! Check it out! Is this guy bringing the 50s back or what? The last downstroke warrior indeed.
